Travis AFB Runway in the News

What does successful construction partnering look like on a complex military project? The reconstruction of Runway 21R/03L at Travis Air Force Base in Solano County, Calif. offers a compelling example. Featured in the July-August 2026 issue of The Military Engineer, the project demonstrates how open communication, shared accountability and a collaborative approach can help teams navigate unexpected challenges while keeping critical operations moving.

Facilitated by VELO Group, the partnering process brought the project team together around common goals and a shared commitment to success. With a $130 million runway reconstruction, an active airfield, strict environmental requirements and unforeseen subsurface conditions, the team needed to stay aligned and adapt quickly. That collaboration helped reduce schedule risk, resolve challenges efficiently and protect sensitive habitat, resulting in zero biological incidents and no material schedule impacts.

This project is a powerful reminder that construction partnering is more than a series of meetings. It creates the trust and communication channels teams need to make timely decisions, solve problems together and deliver results under demanding conditions.
